  • Before you begin, gather the following materials:
    • Cure Catheter in sealed wrapper
    • Water soluble lubricant
    • Something to cleanse the area: soap, water and a washcloth, or unscented disposable wipes
    • A container to collect the urine if not cathing on or near a toilet
    • Hand towel
  • Inspect catheter and packaging for damage before use.
  • Wash hands with soap and water or use an antibacterial hand cleaner.
  • Lay out equipment for easy access.
  • Open water-soluble lubricant and catheter package.
  • Apply lubricant to the catheter tip and first few inches.
  • Get into a comfortable position, spread legs if sitting or arrange knees if lying down.
  • Hold the penis upright to avoid pinching the urethra.
  • Retract foreskin if uncircumcised and clean the glans penis with soap and water.
  • Insert the lubricated catheter slowly, with gentle but firm continuous pressure until resistance is felt.
  • Continue to insert the catheter until urine begins to flow.
  • Collect urine in the toilet or a container if lying down.
  • Rotate the catheter while withdrawing; if urine flows, pause and let it drain.
  • Continue to withdraw the catheter until the bladder is empty.
  • If uncircumcised, bring the foreskin back over the glans when finished.
