External Male Catheter FAQs

What is the most effective method for removing an external catheter?

Smoothly roll the catheter off the skin. A warm, damp washcloth, held over the catheter for around 30 seconds may help weaken the adhesive for easier removal in some cases. Adhesive remover wipes may also be affective.

Is it possible to use a protective barrier wipe on the skin before applying the catheter?

Although the barrier is not initially recommended, it may be beneficial if the skin is fragile.

Can Male external catheters be used on an uncircumcised penis?

Yes. Apply the catheter with the foreskin in its original position.

question
What is so special about the adhesive?
Tim - 8/9/2014 12:34:34 AM
answer image
The self-adhering catheters feature a skin-friendly, non-sensitizing adhesive integrated into the sheath lining. The patented forward placement of adhesive just behind the glans reduces the area for potential urine build-up around the head of the penis, which could otherwise cause catheter blow-off. This advanced design also prevents urine migration up the penis shaft, helping users avoid accidental detachment.

question
What is the benefit of silicone?
Sheila - 7/29/2014 7:43:13 AM
answer image
Silicone eliminates the risk of latex-related allergic reactions and helps ensure optimal skin integrity. A key advantage of silicone is that it allows perspiration to evaporate through the sheath. This reduces moisture buildup that may lead to skin maceration and makes the catheter more comfortable to wear.
