How does Cunningham Penile Clamp work?

  • Cunningham Clip is a hinged, stainless steel frame supporting two soft foam rubber pads and a locking device.
  • The user is supposed to place the penis between the two foam pads and the hinged clamp is squeezed shut.
  • Lower foam pad has an inverted V which presses against the lower side of the penis exerting a closing pressure on the urethra.
  • A slight pressure on the urethral canal on the lower side of the penis prevents urine leakage.
  • The required pressure is achieved by the hump in the under part of the clamp.
  • For comfort and proper fit, upper part of the clamp can be easily shaped by the fingers.
  • Cunningham Clamp should be replaced every 3 months, or sooner if the foam deteriorates.

How much urine will they hold back before they need to be "opened"?

Does the foam stay dry ?

Do they work well at night?

Jim Nye - 4/6/2015 11:15:00 PM

Thank you for reaching out to us. The Cunningham Clamp uses the smallest amount of pressure possible to stop the flow of urine. The pad goes around the penis and will remain dry.

The device can be washed with a mild soap / water, then allowed to air dry. These are typically used for daytime use. It is possible the clamp could pull on the skin if a person moves around while sleeping.
